Hutchison 3G UK appoints distributors

December 11, 2002

Hutchison 3G UK today announced that Hugh Symons Group and Avenir Telecom UK have been appointed as distributors for Hutchison 3G UK (trading as 3).

Under the terms of the agreement, Hugh Symons and Avenir Telecom will themselves introduce customers to 3 for 3 Services. The two companies will nominate third parties to act as approved stockists to introduce customers for 3 Services and to stock equipment supplied by Hugh Symons and Avenir Telecom.

Once a stockist is approved by 3, Avenir Telecom and Hugh Symons will be responsible for managing the stockist relationships on an ongoing basis which will include training, supply chain management and logistical support.

John Barton, sales director at 3, said: “As we scale up our operations ahead of the rollout of commercial services, we’re very focused on ensuring that independent stockists are able to play a part in bringing the excitement of 3 to mass-market consumers. Hugh Symons and Avenir are both perfectly positioned to help us achieve that aim. ”

Geoff Walters, Managing Director, Avenir Telecom UK, said: “Avenir is delighted to be one of the two distributors chosen by 3. I think this reflects our professionalism, commitment and dedication to new technologies and will be beneficial for our dealer partners. This is another part of AT UK’s long term strategy fully to support independent dealers and maximise their business opportunities in this exciting phase of the market.”

Bob Sweetlove, Business Manager, Hugh Symons Communications, said: “We are delighted to be chosen as a distributor for 3. The success of 3G technology is a fundamental part of our long-term strategy and in choosing us, 3 is endorsing our strategic aim of providing complete choice and support to the channel. Our unity accreditation scheme provides 3 with rapid access to an installed base of knowledgeable resellers well positioned to unlock the profit opportunities of this exciting new technology. We welcome enquiries from both existing and new resellers interested in driving 3's sales.”
