December 12, 2002

Hutchison 3G UK and phones 4u today announced that phones 4u will be a major retail partner when Hutchison 3G UK begins rolling out 3G mobile multimedia and communications services under the 3 brand.

The fastest-growing mobile phone retailer in the UK, phones 4u will sell 3G handsets and promote 3 products and services in all of its 325 shops across the UK. Contract terms were not disclosed.

As the UK’s first commercial 3G service, 3 will deliver live video calls, digital mapping and advanced satellite location-based services, exclusive mobile video clips of Premier League football highlights, music, games, news and finance. The company is taking prospective customer pre-registration details at 3's website, where prospective customers can explore a ‘sneak preview’ of what will be on offer, fill out an online questionnaire to define their personal preferences and register with 3 to receive progress updates. Additionally, prospective customers will be able to pre-register at phones 4u's website.

Anthony Catterson, Managing Director of phones 4u, said: “We are one of 3’s key partners at launch. As such we are committed to putting our considerable mobile phone retail and marketing experience behind 3 to help make their exciting technology a huge success in 2003. We believe the combination of the phones 4u sales team and the 3 range of products and services will be a compelling proposition for UK consumers.”

John Barton, sales director at 3, said: “Phones 4u are an important partner for us and will play a key role in putting 3’s products and services into the hands of UK consumers over the coming months. We are pleased that phones 4u share our commitment to the next generation of mobile multimedia and communications services and look forward to working with them in the future.”
