Spirent Communications provides advanced feature testing platform for
3G handsets
December 9, 2003
Spirent Communications announced the new APEX C2K Applications Performance
Test Platform, the first integrated test solution designed to verify the
performance of resident and downloadable software applications for 3G
wireless cellular devices.
“CDMA handset testing is evolving from minimum performance and interoperability
testing to more advanced application performance and end-user experience
testing,” states Rob VanBrunt, vice president of wireless product marketing
for Spirent Communications. “We’ve worked closely with our customers to
design APEX C2K, a solution powerful enough to automate performance testing
for the latest wireless data applications, yet flexible enough to grow
as new test requirements evolve.”
As the number of CDMA devices with advanced functionality grows, the
ability to carry out rapid, automated feature regression testing will
directly impact the success of launching new products and services. Spirent’s
APEX C2K platform is a scalable test solution designed to meet the evolving
needs of wireless application development. The system’s advanced automation
specifically addresses a key weakness in existing test methodologies:
Current testing of CDMA2000 1X features, such as data and Mobile IP, is
largely a manual and time-consuming process. While some test solutions
exist to perform pieces of application and feature testing, APEX C2K is
the first integrated platform to automate this analysis. This automation
allows for a large number of test cases to be run in a relatively short
time, reducing the amount of valuable engineering resource dedicated to
test strategy execution.
Spirent’s APEX C2K allows mobile device manufacturers and service providers
to:
- Determine performance of resident or downloaded applications
- Differentiate one product from another based on performance
- Validate end-user experience of new services offered on mobile devices
- Automate feature testing to reduce the overall test cycle
- Verify consistent performance with regression test software
