areeba to put Cyprus on the 3G map
December 5, 2004
Cyprus's areeba officially opened their building in Nicosia and also unveil new 3G products on their upcoming 3G network as it bids to attract more customers.
"December 1, 2004, is the official birth of areeba. It was almost one year ago that the Ministry of Communication granted us our telecommunication licence," said Managing Director Maher Mikati, reported the Cyprus Mail.
Mikati told a news conference that the company has over 10.000 subscribers since it officially began operations in September. On average 200 new customers are signing up to areeba' mobile service daily and the company is on target to double its customer base to 20.000.
"We intend to put Cyprus on the 3G map," said Mikati.
"These new phones and the new network will have great new features and advantages and we believe that they will be the next technological revolution since the internet."
As well as consumer 3G services, areeba also plans release a 3G data card for laptops aiming at corporate users on the move.
Following the opening of the Nicosia head quarters, Mikati said areeba will extend its presence to Limassol and Larnaca by the end of the month, with further expansion in Paphos and Paralimni expected by next June.
