Huawei Technologies announces that its WCDMA data card is now available to SmarTone customers, a Hong Kong mobile operator. The card now appear in the show room of Smartone, This is also the first 3G terminal launched by SmarTone with the data card manufactured by Huawei Technologies in China.

With this WCDMA/GPRS/GSM double model data card, consumers will be able to enjoy wireless high-speed Internet access and with the downloading speed of 384 kbps and the uploading speed of 128 kbps, consumers can easily check their e-mail and access the Internet anytime, anywhere. The data card allows for roaming in Japan, Germany, Austria and Australia. SmarTone has plans to extend the roaming service areas into Italy and Singapore at the end of this month, and into Taiwan and Western Europe in early 2005. The data card fulfills the roaming via GPRS in those areas, even without a 3G network.

The data card chosen by SmarTone was originally launched by Huawei at PT/EXPO COMM CHINA which opened on October 26 this year. Including this data card, Huawei Technologies formally launched three WCDMA terminal products for business use at the press conference held in Hong Kong on November 15, 2004.

For the 3G terminals provided by Chinese companies, this was the first step to the overseas market; and for Huawei's 3G terminals, this marks the beginning towards the global market.
