Ofcom to propose further 3G licenses in UK
December 12, 2004
Ofcom, UK's telecom regulator, is reported to be consulting on a number of radio spectrum allocations that include 3G services.
The Business newspaper said that Ofcom is set to publish a report in the next few weeks regarding a second round of 3G license auctions. The report will detail the disposal of 13 separate parts of the radio spectrum.
New bidders can expect the new licenses to cost far less than the price paid by the winners in the 2000 auctions. The newspaper also said that the BT Group and Virgin Mobile would be expected to bid in the auction.
An Ofcom spokesman said the consultation papers could be published within the next month.
