NEC starts commercial operation of HSDPA system in Hong Kong

NEC Corporation (NEC) announced that its High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) system has started operation in the commercial 3G service "Turbo 3G" of 3 Hong Kong, the mobile telecommunications operation of Hutchison Telecommunications (Hong Kong) Limited. 3 Hong Kong's HSDPA service realizes a maximum downlink transmission speed of 3.6Mbps. This contract has been awarded to NEC and its 3G partner Siemens following a successful field trial on 3 Hong Kong's UMTS network.
During the field trial earlier this year, NEC's HSDPA-based UTRAN achieved a high level of performance and functionality, including high-speed internet access, consecutive data transmission and handover in a HSDPA service environment, while allowing flexible and variable changes in transmission speed. With NEC's HSDPA-based UTRAN, the subscribers can enjoy further comfortable communication environment for "X-series" service which 3 Hong Kong newly launched.
