Siemens gets Portuguese 3G order

date: 13th February 2001, source by: Handelsblatt.com

Electronics giant Siemens AG said Tuesday it received a contact from Portugal's mobile phone operator OniWay to build a network for Universal Mobile Telecommunication Systems, or third-generation mobile telecommunications.

Siemens' Information and Communications Mobile unit signed a letter of intent with OniWay, which provides for installation of the greater part of the OniWay's base stations and a radio network controller by the end of 2001, Siemens said in a statement.

Siemens didn't provide any financial details of the agreement.

OniWay is owned by Oni, the telecommunications division of Portuguese electricity group Electricidade de Portugal, and Norway's mobile phone operator Telenor ASA.
