QUALCOMM Expands YISO Telecom Co.'s CDMA Modem Card License for 3G CDMAdate: 27th February 2001, source by: wirelessdesignonline.com QUALCOMM Incorporated today announced an amendment to YISO Telecom Co.'s existing CDMA modem card license agreement. Prior to the amendment, YISO Telecom Co.'s CDMA license covered only cdmaOne™ products. Under the terms of the royalty-bearing amendment, QUALCOMM has granted YISO an amendment to expand its existing licenses under QUALCOMM's CDMA patent portfolio to include the design and market of third-generation (3G) CDMA (e.g. cdma2000, cdma2000 1xEV, TD-SCDMA, WCDMA) modem cards. The royalties payable by YISO, are the same for 3G as those for second-generation equipment, irrespective of the licensed CDMA standard. "By expanding its license agreement, YISO Telecom is now strategically positioned to use QUALCOMM's CDMA technology to help fulfill the demand for Internet connectivity in the rapidly growing wireless industry," said Steve Altman, president of QUALCOMM Technology Alliances. "We look forward to working with YISO Telecom for the advancement of 3G CDMA technologies." "YISO Telecom is pleased to extend its license with QUALCOMM to include 3G CDMA technology, which is key to developing high-speed wireless Internet solutions and modems for advanced voice and data applications," said Kyung-Min Yoo, president of YISO Telecom Co. "This license is evidence of YISO Telecom's commitment to support the growing demands for wireless Internet access." Established in October 1999, Yiso Telecom Co., Ltd. is focused on the development, production and sales of information and communications devices. Yiso Telecom was the first company to develop a CDMA-based wireless modem, FreeWing, that not only integrates with notebook PCs, but also Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs), credit card readers, parking meters, mobile ATMs, vending machines, meter readers and automobiles.
