DoCoMo says 3G ARPU at Y10,400 in Oct-Decdate: February 7, 2002 Japan's only 3G operator NTT DoCoMo, has announced the 3G average revenue per user (ARPU) was 10,400 yen a month in October to December. In December it had 27,000 subscribers to its 3G service. Mobile operators are keeping a close eye on DoCoMo to see if 3G can be profitable. Operators around the world have been paying large sums of money for the 3G licenses that will allow new types of services. Analyst say it is still too early to know the implications of the level of ARPU at this point. About two thirds of the subscribers are corporate users. It may take another six months to know the impact of earnings for DoCoMo. DoCoMo are aiming to generate profits on 3G in the fourth year of operation.
