Demonstration of Tropian's Multimode Wireless RF Technology for WCDMAdate: February 12, 2002 Tropian Inc., a Silicon Valley-based advanced wireless communications product company, announced today that the company will introduce its newest wireless RF technology at the 3GSM World Congress 2002. The conference will be held February 19 - 22 in Cannes, France. Tropian will feature demonstrations of CodeStar -- the company's patented Polar Impact(TM) RF technology as applied to WCDMA, the global third-generation mobile phone standard. In addition to addressing the WCDMA standards, the CodeStar platform also provides an elegant solution for GSM, EDGE, and GPRS, thereby enabling a powerful single transmitter for multimode (GSM/GPRS/EDGE/WCDMA) handset and base station requirements. Unlike conventional transmit architectures for linear systems, Polar Impact(TM) is a digital platform that provides excellent spectral purity for superior radio performance and reduced development time. It also eliminates filters and other components for reduced cost and simplified manufacturing, and offers extremely stable performance over temperature and supply voltage. "Polar Impact is a breakthrough that will result in significant cost reductions in the manufacturing of a common, multimode radio platform for UMTS, GSM, EDGE, and TDMA," said Michael Farese, Tropian's President and CEO. "It will help the market prosper -- and enable cell phone users to enjoy a high performance phone with worldwide roaming capability at an affordable price." Tropian will also demonstrate its recently launched TimeStar(TM) multimode, multiband RF transmitter solution. TimeStar(TM) incorporates GSM/GPRS, EDGE, TDMA, and AMPS wireless standards into a single transmitter chip. Tropian's launch of TimeStar comes at a key time in the wireless industry. Multi-mode digital wireless handsets and basestations are fast becoming a requirement for 2G, 2.5G and 3G, as cellular carriers deploy new technologies that significantly differ from legacy systems. TimeStar(TM) also utilizes Tropian's Polar Impact(TM) technology -- a scalable RF platform that enables handset manufacturers and network operators to efficiently deliver high-speed voice and data services based on 1G, 2G, 2.5G and 3G operating modes to multi-mode handsets and other wireless products -- virtually anywhere in the world.
