Nortel to Demonstrate ``Always On'' Wireless Datadate: February 20, 2002 Nortel Networks is scheduled to demonstrate its innovative wireless solutions at 3GSM World Congress in Cannes, February 19-22, 2002. Throughout the congress, Nortel Networks will be conducting live demonstrations. The UMTS demonstrations, all based on an end-to-end live network founded on commercial equipment compliant with 3GPP standards, are expected to include: -- a mobile-to-mobile voice call between QUALCOMM MSM5200-chip set based test mobiles and SANYO mobile devices; -- a packet data call on a Samsung mobile device showing a variety of data services, including Web browsing, video streaming, and SIP (Session Initiated Protocol)-based applications such as instant messaging and gaming. In the "Always On" Cafe area at the Nortel Networks booth, a range of portal-based GPRS demos will be featured where congress attendees can enjoy a hands-on experience of real next generation mobile data services over a live GPRS network, such as location based and navigation services, corporate services, and gaming. The demos aim to illustrate that "Always On" services are here and how they will change mobile communications and become an integral part of our communications lives. An "Always On" experience area will also be used in the demo centre to illustrate how Nortel Networks Wireless Solutions are designed to deliver on the next generation mobile data promise with a full suite of integrated IP services including VPN, real time billing, personalized quality of service, optimised content delivery and security. Also on display will be Nortel Networks next generation Person-to-Person Wireless Communications Services based on Nortel Networks IMS SIP Server. Running over multi-generation access technologies, Nortel Networks SIP server will demonstrate opportunities for revenue-generating services such as Instant Messaging, Video Conferencing, Collaboration, Gaming, and Web Push. Available for deployment today, IMS SIP Server will support person-to-person messaging in 2.5G networks, with evolution to UMTS presence-based, multimedia services. Nortel Networks brings together the benefits of seven years experience in CDMA technology, extensive expertise in packet switching, a complete portfolio of network-based IP services and next generation voice over IP to deliver a comprehensive UMTS network solution.
