Action Engine Showcases Next-Generation Mobile Device Softwaredate: February 22, 2002 Action Engine Corporation, a member of the Intel(R) Personal Internet Client Architecture (Intel PCA) Developer Network, today announces that it will demonstrate its Action Engine Mobile Services Framework(TM) for smart mobile devices at the Intel Developer Forum, to be held at Moscone Center in San Francisco, on February 25-28, 2002. Action Engine's client-rich software design takes advantage of the Intel PCA design for mobile devices. Action Engine's smart client / smart server framework moves beyond the browser-based paradigm for wireless applications, allowing users to access applications on the device regardless of wireless protocols or standards. This design creates an improved user experience on smart wireless devices. Other features of the framework, such as wireless provisioning of new applications to the client device, integration with the local calendar and contacts databases on the device, and a simple-to-use application development environment, make the Action Engine solution compelling for wireless carriers looking to launch next-generation data services. "If the industry is truly going to drive incremental revenue from mobile data services, we believe we must work collaboratively to get exciting new applications and services on powerful new data-enabled handsets into the hands of subscribers," said Tony Sica, vice president of Intel's Wireless Computing and Communications Group Marketing. "Our work with Action Engine has resulted in a Mobile Services Framework that moves beyond the existing thin mobile phone model to provide compelling reasons for subscribers to use2.5G and 3G data services." The demo at the Intel Developer Forum follows closely on the heels of the 3GSM World Congress in Cannes, France earlier this month, where Action Engine also participated with Intel to highlight its mobile data solution. In addition to the Mobile Services Framework, Action Engine has also created a set of "Action Utilities" that helps users download new applications and wireless services, backup their device data, and lock out or destroy data on the device if lost or stolen -- all from a wireless environment. There is also an SDK (Software Development Kit) for application development by third parties, including enterprise licensees and systems integrators. "The relationship between Action Engine's software with the Intel PCA design provides a simple migration path for carriers to offer many of the services that consumers and enterprises alike are asking for," says Craig Eisler, CEO and president of Action Engine. Action Engine, who recently announced licensing agreements with both mmO2 (formerly BT Wireless) and Casio Computer Ltd., licenses its software to global wireless carriers, systems integrators and enterprises, and device manufacturers. Licensing fees are based on an active user basis, which virtually eliminates the financial risk for licensees and maximizes the revenue potential for Action Engine, the licensee, and the application development community.
