China Telecom testing CDMA2000
February 13, 2003
It has been reported that China Telecom Fujian branch is secretly
testing the CDMA2000 in Quanzhou City of Fujian Province.
CEOs of Fujian Telecom say the company may get 3G license this
year, but it is worrying about the State Government would force
China Telecom to choose TD-SCDMA which is developed Datang Telecommunications.
Hence, the head of the company is hoping to choose the communications
standard of CDMA2000 by negotiating with the Ministry of Information
Industry. CDMA2000 is American 3G standard that was also adopted
by China Unicom. China Group, the parents company of China Mobile,
may adopt European WCDMA to upgrade its current GPRS networks.
Up to now, no Chinese telecom carriers have said to adopt Datang's
TD-SCDMA.
