Samsung And CPS Announce Joint Development Of E-OTD Location Technology
For 3G Phones
February 22, 2003
Samsung Electronics and Cambridge Positioning Systems (CPS) announce
a joint programme to drive development of high accuracy low cost
E-OTD location technology for the global 2G and 3G markets.
Under the MoU (Memorandum of Understanding), the two companies
will work closely together on technology innovation for future integration
into a range of Samsung products including 3G handsets.
The programme - the first of its kind in the world - follows Samsung’s
announcement in July 2002 that it would be the first manufacturer
to integrate E-OTD into a GSM handset. Subsequently, a number of
Samsung handsets have completed software integration at CPS’s UK
facility.
The joint development programme will provide Samsung with access
to the latest technology developments for GSM, including 50-metre
accuracy for North America and other markets. The programme will
also extend to 3G where CPS is developing its own high accuracy
solution.
