Teleca to deliver solution for streaming media in 3’s mobile network in Sweden

February 23, 2003

Teleca will deliver a solution that transforms high-resolution video, such as TV, into the standardised formats for mobile multimedia. The solution enables 3 to offer streaming media services with both audio and video, such as live newscasts. The solution is one of the world’s first of its kind for commercial use and shows that a new, potentially big market, towards operators and media-businesses is evolving.

"We have very positive experience from working with Teleca and feel comfortable that they will deliver a state-of-the-art solution," says Johan Edlund, head of streaming content at 3.

The solution will allow 3 to create new multimedia services in a fast and scaleable way. This is achieved by letting content providers connect to the system in a controlled and easy manner and distribute the content to the subscribers.

"We are proud to help 3 to build their solution for Streaming Services," says Johan Nyberg, CEO at Teleca AU-system. "Together with our partner Popwire, we can deliver a powerful solution which enables exciting services with both audio and video for next generation mobile devices".

The solution is based on Popwire's Compression Engine and enables encoding of large amounts of data in multiple formats for distribution over wireless and fixed networks. The solution supports all the standards set by the 3GPP, such as MMS, MPEG-4, H.263, JPEG, GIF, AMR, and SMIL.
