Ericsson adds 450 MHz CDMA2000 solution to high growth markets offering

February 18, 2004

Ericsson announced its 450 MHz CDMA2000 solution, a cost-effective 3G solution based on industry leading 3G platforms that support 1X and 1xEV-DO now and are ready to support 1xEV-DV services. The solution is the next step in Ericsson's recently launched Expander offering, which is designed to improve scalability and provide cost-effective solutions for high growth markets.

Many operators with spectrum in the 450 MHz frequency are replacing their existing analog NMT450 networks with CDMA2000, enabling them to deploy state-of-the-art technology with clear voice calls and data capabilities with higher capacity. Many countries also will allocate new spectrum for CDMA2000 450 MHz.

"With an increasing number of operators looking to deploy CDMA2000 in 450 MHz, this decision is proof of Ericsson's commitment to supporting these operators with the most cost-effective 3G solution available for CDMA2000," said Mats Granryd, president, Ericsson Mobile Systems CDMA.

Due to the improved propagation at lower frequencies, CDMA2000 in 450 MHz is particularly well suited for rural networks and for addressing operators' needs for cost-efficient coverage.

Ericsson's CDMA2000 and GSM/EDGE Expander solutions are comprised of products and services that cover the total mobile network, and provide low total cost of ownership, high quality performance, and are optimized for scalable coverage and capacity.

Ericsson's CDMA2000 solution for radio and packet networks, switching and applications/control is built on core 3G platforms that are common with its WCDMA offering. Ericsson provides solutions for all standards of CDMA2000 and GSM/EDGE/WCDMA.
