Samsung selects TranSwitch's VLSI component for W-CDMA
February 20, 2004
TranSwitch Corporation announced that Samsung Electronics's Telecommunication Systems Division has selected TranSwitch's patented CellBus technology as well as CUBIT-Pro and CUBIT-3 switching devices for Samsung's W-CDMA and 3G-CDMA wireless platform for Base Transceiver Stations (BTS). TranSwitch has been designated a Samsung Electronics preferred vendor for wireless VLSI solutions.
The dramatic growth of the Internet requires reliable high speed wireless transmission to provide a range of multimedia services. TranSwitch's industry-leading CellBus switching technology and CUBIT-Pro and CUBIT-3 products deliver the high speed data handling capability for the W-CDMA platform. The advanced functionality of CUBIT-Pro and CUBIT-3, together with guaranteed CellBus/CUBIT interoperability and software compatibility, enables Samsung Electronics to eliminate a number of external components, shrink system board area, and dramatically reduce system and software integration time and costs. The TranSwitch CUBIT family has offered the basis for cost-effective ATM cell, IP packet/frame relay, and voice switching and multiplexing systems to OEM customers since 1995.
CellBus, a patented bus-based switch fabric technology for edge and access networks developed by TranSwitch, has been adopted into the system designs of over 40 customers, including the top five global telecom systems suppliers. It enables OEMs to meet the exponential growth in service demand as broadband deployment increases at the network edge. Other TranSwitch products extend both the functionality and performance of CellBus-based systems, allowing customers to easily migrate this technology to next-generation designs. In October 2001 TranSwitch entered into a strategic alliance agreement with Samsung Electronics for the development of their next-generation networking solutions. TranSwitch has been designated a preferred supplier and strategic partner of the Systems R&D Team at Samsung's Telecommunication Systems Divison. TranSwitch is also collaborating with Samsung Electronics on key wireline applications.
"This agreement reinforces a longstanding relationship between TranSwitch and Samsung Electronics and represents the opportunity going forward to align the TranSwitch roadmap with the Samsung Electronics product roadmap," stated Dr. Santanu Das, President and CEO of TranSwitch Corporation. "Samsung Electronics has been one of our most strategic customers for over half a decade. The agreement recognizes both TranSwitch's contribution to accelerating Samsung's time-to-market and TranSwitch's key support of Samsung's growing global wireless market."
