NEC set to offer 3G consultancy expertise in Global Services launch
February 29, 2004
3G infrastructure vendor, NEC UK, is launching a new consultancy service portfolio to offer both operators and vendors the opportunity to tap into its 3G network roll-out and optimisation expertise.
NEC boasts an unrivalled position at the forefront of 3G infrastructure and terminals provision and optimisation. In the UK, NEC has led the supply of 3G radio infrastructure required by 3, helping to enable the operator to reach over 70% population coverage for its video mobile services in one of the fastest network rollouts in European telecoms history.
The company is now making the expertise it has gained available to mobile operators and vendors alike, helping them reduce roll-out costs, cut time to market, deliver maximum network performance and enable the delivery of value-add revenue generating services and applications such as DRM solutions and Ring Back Melodies.
The 'Global Services' portfolio comprises all the elements a network operator or infrastructure vendor needs to design, build, launch, operate and maintain a 3G network - right from capacity and business planning through to engineer training programmes at NEC's bespoke 3G training centre for ongoing maintenance and support.
NEC's leadership in this market is genuinely unique, comprising dual leadership in both infrastructure and handsets. This has given the company a deep understanding of the challenges of interoperability testing, reducing the time required for the commercial launch of 3G terminals from multiple suppliers.
"For operators to generate traffic and increase subscriber numbers, a reliable, efficient, 'always on' network is an absolute necessity," said Jeremy Sheehan, Head of Commercial & Sales, 3G Mobile Systems, NEC UK. "No other company can match NEC's field expertise in this market, so we are offering both operators and vendors the opportunity to capitalise on our experience and avoid reinventing the wheel!"
"We foresee strong demand for this kind of consultancy, as the pressure to roll out resilient and robust commercial 3G networks grows," he continues. "In a market driven by the need to bring new services to market quickly and, crucially, cost effectively, the ability to exploit proven experience will be invaluable."
