February 10, 2005
Freescale Semiconductor continues to build on its technology with the acquisition of the assets of PrairieComm. Founded in 1994, privately-held PrairieComm is an innovator in the 3G baseband market.
"This acquisition supports our ability to provide comprehensive platforms and system solutions for our customers," said Freescale Chairman and CEO Michel Mayer. "PrairieComm complements our deep expertise in UMTS and 3G wireless solutions and will enhance our leadership in the marketplace."
PrairieComm is recognized for its engineering of cellular products including software, system-on-chip designs and platform designs. The company has a strong background in development and sales of CDMA, TDMA, GSM and UMTS product lines. PrairieComm is headquartered in Rolling Meadows, Illinois, with additional offices in Atlanta, Georgia, and Bangalore, India. About 120 employees are joining Freescale as part of this transaction - 60 in India and 60 in the United States.
The acquisition of PrairieComm's assets enables Freescale's wireless team to further address the demands of its broad customer base while maintaining a strong focus on its established customers.
