Subsidiary of TIW acquires a UMTS License

Telesystem International Wireless announces that its subsidiary, Oskar Mobil (Oskar), has secured a license to establish a 3G UMTS network in the Czech Republic for CZK 2 billion (US$88.7 million)

The 3G license was awarded by the Czech Telecommunications office (CTU).

The license is awarded for a term of 20 years and requires Oskar to achieve initial implementation targets in Prague by January 1st 2008, at the latest.

Oskar Mobil is owned by Canada's TIW.

The Czech Republic's two other mobile operators, Eurotel and T-Mobile, were awarded 3G licenses in 2001 and are expected to start operation next year.
