DoCoMo Overtakes KDDI

February 8, 2006 - source: BWCS

Japanese mobile phone giant NTT DoCoMo has seen the growth of 3G customer base outstrip its rival KDDI's for the first time in four years. At the end of January 2006 DoCoMo's high-speed subscribers added up to a total of 21.2 million, placing it just ahead of KDDI.

According to figures from the Japanese government, DoCoMo added 1.06 million users to its FOMA 3G system last month, while KDDI managed to grow its high-speed mobile customer base by only 267,200 new users. This meant that KDDI languished just behind its fierce rival with a customer total of 20.9 million.
