P4, Polish mobile operator, and Huawei Technologies jointly held a signing ceremony of an Agreement on UMTS network construction at Huawei's headquarters in Shenzhen, China. P4 announced that Huawei has been selected as the sole provider to undertake the construction of P4's 1st Phase UMTS network after rigorous tender process.

Under the agreement, Huawei will provide total end-to-end UMTS solutions, including Softswitch-based Core Network, UTRAN, HSDPA, 3G Streaming Services, and 3G handsets, etc. The 1st Phase UMTS network covers Poland's major cities. It's expected to be commercialized by the end of 2006 after its pre-commercial application in the third quarter this year.

COO of P4, Mr. Chris Bannister said, "The vigorous technical evaluation of Huawei's UMTS solution convinced us of Huawei's strong competitiveness in terms of its advanced technology & construction expertise. Through our extensive communication and stringent inspection on Huawei, we are delighted to establish strategic partnership with a leading vendor like Huawei."

"Huawei's customer-oriented UMTS expertise & responsiveness will enable us to provide Polish mobile subscribers with diversified and cost-effective 3G services such as MMS, video phone, video conferencing, video streaming, pocket TV and Internet surfing. With Huawei's advanced technologies, rich experience in UMTS network construction and rapid response to customers' requirements, P4 will definitely survive the fierce competition in Polish mobile market and gradually prosper in the near future." added Mr. Chris Bannister.

"The discerning P4 has finally selected Huawei as its sole provider of 1st Phase UMTS network, after rigorous evaluation and inspection over all UMTS vendors." said Mr. Cui Jiangao, Vice President of Huawei Europe, "The large-scale commercial application of Huawei's UMTS in Poland, the most populated central European country, will further strengthen our leading position as a Tier-1 UMTS supplier in the world.
