Largest Trial Yet for Home Grown 3G

February 20, 2006 - source: BWCS

The TD-SCDMA Industry Alliance in China has announced that its members will commence the construction of an experimental network for the 3G standard at the end of this month. The network will mainly be used to test handsets and their capabilities on the new standard. It is hoped it will give manufacturers a chance to solve problems of instability and backward compatibility.

In what the alliance says it the largest test yet of the new homegrown Chinese standard, up to 10,000 phones will be put through their paces. The participants will include the three main Chinese operators: China Mobile, China Netcom and China Telecom. Local manufacturers including Datang, ZTE and TD Tech will supply the network equipment and many of the handsets.
