Telecom Mobitel to invest US$200 on 3G technology

February 5, 2007

Amid the intense competition in Sri Lanka's telecommunication market over acquiring third generation technology, Telecom Mobitel stated that it would invest over US$200 million for their 3G- infrastructure expansion network.

The investment is to come from Sri Lanka Telecom and borrowings from banks, said CEO of Telecom Mobitel, Suren Amarasekera.

A supply contract was signed recently with Huawei Technologies of China to intensify the Mobitel 3G networks.
