3G, Mobile Internet Firms Need To Change Plans

date: 13th January 2001, source: alexanderresources.com

Research just published says that companies planning the rollout of their third generation (3G) wireless networks and high-speed mobile Internet services, must change course to avoid future problems.

If the carriers continue with their current plans, Alexander Resources, the research firm behind the report, says, then they risk endangering the success of their new wireless networks and plans.

The company says that unique needs of 3G networks, which include the prospect of rapid movement by users, the use of non-voice services, and short user sessions, mean that current designs and the selection of spectrum requirements need to be changed.

The analysis comes in the wake of a hiatus in the issue of 3G licenses around the world since late last year.

Italian authorities are already investigating the pullout and effective collapse in pricing of its 3G licenses late last year, while other countries, notably Poland, are talking openly about restructuring their 3G license auctions to accommodate more realistic bids from carriers.
