Sunday Communications to bid for Singapore 3G licence

date: 29th January 2001, source: Yahoo

Sunday Communications plans to submit a tender for a 3G (third generation) mobile phone licence in Singapore, Hong Kong Economic Journal reported Monday, citing a company spokesman.

The spokesman declined to reveal whether the company would independently bid for the licence or form links with other companies.

The Singapore government said last October it planned to issue four 3G licences in February with a minimum price of 150 million Singapore dollars (667.5 million Hong Kong dollars) each, the report said.

However, the government has decided the tender will be postponed until April or May as it needed more time to negotiate with the telecom companies on the tender process and regulations.

The government has said it will not issue additional 3G licences before January 2006, the report added.
