Sanyo Sweeps Top Wireless Phone Awards at 2002 CESdate: January 16, 2002 Sanyo has won both of the major wireless phone awards at the 2002 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), which concluded on Friday in Las Vegas, Nevada. Sanyo's advanced, 3G IMT-2000 wireless phone with an ultra-vivid Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) display and twin built-in CCD cameras won the TechTV "Best of CES" award for Telephony at the cable TV network's second annual "Best of CES" awards, held at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The innovative Sanyo SCP-6000 wireless phone, which measures a mere .39 inches deep, won the prestigious Innovations 2002 "Best of Innovations" Award in the Wireless Communications category. The CES Innovation awards, sponsored by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), focus on the design of the most innovative products of 2002. Sporting a vivid, half-permeable color LCD display, the Sanyo SCP-5150 wireless phone (a successor to the model SCP-5000, America's first color screen phone) is also an Innovations 2002 Design and Engineering Showcase honoree at CES. Like the Sanyo SCP-6000, the SCP-5150 is available in the U.S. exclusively through Sprint PCS. "Sanyo is extremely pleased and proud to have been honored with two top-of-category awards at the biggest U.S. trade show in the consumer electronics industry," said Atsushi Kodera, group vice president, general manager of Sanyo Fisher Company's Communications/Information Technology Division. "The judging panels of TechTV and Innovations 2002 have selected Sanyo phones as examples of the finest wireless phone products available now, as in the case of our super-slim model SCP-6000, or in the not-too-distant future, as in the case of our 3G model IMT-2000. Sanyo Fisher Company gratefully accepts these awards and thanks everyone involved for their participation." To view Sanyo 3G phones, click here
