Taiwan auction carries on to Thursdaydate: January 16, 2002 Taiwan will continue the auction of its 3G mobile licenses Thursday, said Kao Kai-sheng, deputy director general of the government's Directorate of Telecommunications. Taiwan closed the first day of its auction for its five 3G licenses after eight bidding rounds that resulted in bids totaling US$866,925,230 Wednesday. Taiwan's incumbent mobile operators look set to walk away with their 3G permits for little more than the state-set minimum prices at T$6.7 billion (US$165,959,000) per license. The highest bid for one license so far was put in by Asia Pacific Broadband Wireless Communications for license C at $201,627,800. Taiwan Cellular, had license A with $190,134,520. Far EasTone held B with $105,074,340. Chunghwa was holding license D with a $168,485,540 billion offer. 3GO and Teco Electric, held license E at $201,603,030 . License E is suited for cdma2000 technology.
