Kyocera and Hanaro Telecom signs 4G agreementdate: January 22, 2002 Reflecting a similar initiative signed by their respective governments on 4G partnership, Japan’s Kyocera and Korea’s Hanaro Telecom have entered into an agreement to develop the next generation of high-speed wireless technology, sometimes refer to as 4G. The two companies will cooperate in the development of a 4G system based on some antenna technology developed by Kyocera, reported the Nihon Keizai Shimbun. The report says Kyocera’s technology can enhanced the performance of antennas of cellular networks. Hanaro Telecom is expected to launch a fixed wireless Internet access service in Seoul and six major cities in Korea by 2003 using the current form of the technology, the report said citing a Kyocera official. Both groups plans to have a strategy by June on 4G development and hoping to set some sort of standardization for the technology, which will make its introduction by 2010.
