ITRI selects Hughes Software Systems as its vendor for building 3G Network nodesdate: January 25, 2002 Hughes Software Systems (HSS), specialists in convergent networks and India's leading communications software company, announced today that it has been selected by the Computer & Communications Research Laboratories/Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI/CCL) for supplying Network Infrastructure Software. ITRI/CCL is a Taiwan based R&D institution that selects and qualifies communication infrastructure to be used in the country. ITRI has selected HSS for supplying protocols and components for building 3G Network Infrastructure Software. ITRI verifies and certifies technology as fit for use in Taiwan, and products undergo a rigorous technical evaluation before being adopted by ITRI. Commercial organizations in Taiwan will be willing to follow the ITRI lead in adopting 3G software from HSS to build their commercial network solutions, as this would reduce their technical evaluation and commercial bid process significantly. HSS will be providing ITRI with standards based Node B protocols like NBAP, and Framing Protocols, RNC Protocols like RRC, RLC/MAC, SSCF-UNI and NNI, RANAP, Iu-CS UP, and SGSN Protocols like GTP-U/ C, SIGTRAN etc. "We were impressed by the technical capability demonstrated by HSS and preferred it over other leading technology vendors. This move will help us put Taiwanese companies into a stronger position for the emerging 3G markets." said Dr.Teddy Huang, CCL Deputy General Director. Arun Kumar, President and Managing Director, Hughes Software Systems, said, "With our focus on convergence technologies, and strong delivery capabilities, HSS is poised to further consolidate its position in the 3G software market with the OEMs."
