Taiwan auction getting very expensivedate: January 29, 2002 Taiwan's auction of five third-generation mobile licenses will continue for the 12th day on Wednesday. At the end of Tuesday, bids totaled NT$43.02 billion (US$1=NT$35.001) for the five licences, a 28% markup from the minimum NT$33.6 billion and up from NT$42.101 billion Monday. Analysts said the auction is already overvalued after last Friday and for something that would not be operational until 2004, it is not worth it. 3GO Telecommunications Co. remained the highest bidder for License A with NT$8.930 billion. Taiwan PCS Network outbid Yuan-Ze Telecom Co. to put in the highest bid for License B with NT$6.382 billion. Taiwan Cellular Corp. was the highest bidder for License C with NT$9.120 billion. Chunghwa Telecom Co. posted the highest bid for License D with NT$9.212 billion. Asia Pacific Broadband Wireless Communications Inc.'s bid for License E was unchanged from Tuesday's NT$9.376 billion.
