NetSpira Networks delivers GPRS/3G profits with NetSpira GSN advanced
data metering
January 22, 2003
NetSpira Networks, a content-based mobile data services, unveiled
NetSpira GSN. Aimed at GPRS 2.5/3G wireless network operators, the
NetSpira GSN solution enables operators to implement advanced, content-based
prepaid and post-paid charging schemes and content-based value-added
services.
"Managing increasing take up of data services is crucial to operators
wanting to profit from next generation 2.5 and 3G networks," commented
Jose Lopez Serrano, founder and CEO, NetSpira Networks.
"However, existing GPRS network infrastructures are not designed
to monitor, control or charge based on the type of content transported.
This lack of flexibility severely limits operator ability to implement
models such as charge per successful download or on content accessed.
In the long run this might push operators to act as mere suppliers
of commodity radio bandwidth, leaving content providers to profit
from next generation networks."
NetSpira GSN sits between the core network and charging platforms
and plugs seamlessly into existing infrastructure. By monitoring
traffic and control data sessions based on operator-defined rules
or by following the instructions of external elements it goes beyond
simple GPRS/UMTS volume-based charging, allowing operators to charge
based on content type.
It therefore allows advanced charging schemes such as for a successful
number of downloads or making all access to certain websites free.
