Mobeon's 3G products approved Alcatel's 3G Reality Centre
January 27, 2003
Mobeon's product mPIM, which provides users with the option of
accessing company e-mail, calendar and address book functions from
mobile telephones and PDAs, has been approved for 3G mobile networks
following intensive testing. The tests, which were carried out in
Alcatel's 3G Reality Centre in Velizy, Paris, show performance improvements
for the product of between 3 and 5 times.
The results come as no surprise to Mobeon, where the product has
been in use for a long time together with GPRS, a technology sometimes
referred to as 2.5 G. "The product was initially designed to handle
different types of mobile telephone networks with higher data transmission
rates. We would have been very surprised if the results had been
any different," says Robert Vangstad, Marketing Director at Mobeon.
The test centre in Paris is also positive to the results, which
show a definite improvement in the performance of the product that
enhances user experience when 3G is used. "The tests illustrate
that 3G provides substantial improvements in data transmission rates
which increase on average by between 3 and 5 times," says Jan Morath,
Vice President at Mobeon and responsible for the tests.
The difference between using GPRS and 3G to log on to the mPIM
application from a telephone or PDA was 3 seconds for GPRS and 1
second for 3G. This is equivalent to changing over from a slow Internet
connection via a modem to using broadband. With a quicker connection
and shorter response times, the user experience will be radically
improved.
Mobeon's products have also been tested at Ericsson's test lab
for 3G, and will be distributed with all the 3G deliveries Ericsson
will be providing to its customers.
