Carphone sells exclusive Nokia 7600
January 15, 2004
The Carphone Warehouse has struck a deal with Nokia to sell the 7600
3G handset in the UK for 3UK. Customers buying the phone in the UK will
have access to 3's network and services but it will be Carphone Warehouse,
and not 3 that provide customer support and mobile network services.
This dual-mode 3G/2G mobile phone will be available exclusively at The
Carphone Warehouse from February 2004.
Subscribers can access selected data services such as news bulletins,
comedy services and horoscopes on 3's network. Nokia 7600 users won't
be able to look at premium data services such as football clips because
the phone does not support all of 3's services.
Despite the Nokia 7600 being a 3G phone, it does not support video calling,
which is one of 3's main selling points. It does have a camera capable
of capturing video clips that can be attached to multi-media messages.
The camera also allows still pictures to be taken during the day or night
and is equipped with a self-timer.
Users can watch videos and listen to music in a variety of formats such
as MP3. Every Nokia 7600 comes with a style pack that includes co-ordinated
covers, carrying pouch and wrist strap with matching wallpapers. It can
be customised with changeable body sleeves in innovative new materials,
like leather and fabric too.
The Nokia 7600 is already out in other markets including Hong Kong, but
customers are using the phone on 2G networks rather than 3G. The phone
is very popular in the region and is selling at around HK$3880 (£249).
