3 Australia introduces 'Videotalk to PC' service
January 23, 2004
Australian consumers can now make mobile video calls to any PC's around the world thanks to the new Videotalk to PC service from 3. The operator launched the service on Friday that allows its customers to use their handsets to communicate with webcam enabled PCs.
Three's 3G mobile network has been in existence for less than a year and customers wanting to try out video calling are hard pressed to find someone with a videophone. The Videotalk to PC service will allow customers to make video calls to countries without a 3G network.
Call charges to PCs in Australia is the same as for national Videotalk and customers making calls to PCs in other part of the world are charged at international rate. The service is built on the video gateway system supplied by Ericsson.
The new service is available to NEC606 and NEC808 handset owners and customers with the Motorola A920 will need a software upgrade.
"Videotalk to PC will allow you to make video calls to your friends and family all over the world, even in the countries without 3G services," said Hutchison technology, infrastructure and services director Michael Young.
