Etisalat unveils 3G Mubashir brand

January 26, 2004

Etisalat unveils its new brand and marketing strategy for the region's first 3G service, which was officially launched in a live video call by His Excellency, the Minister of Communications, Ahmed Humaid Al Tayer, 24 December 2003.

Mubashir is the new brand name for the state-of-the art 3G service, which offers 3G enabled Video Calling and High-speed mobile Internet access. As an all-in-one package, it also includes Multi-Media Messaging subscription, providing the best in connectivity and content for customers owning the latest 3G compatible mobile phones.

"The Mubashir brand signals the live connectivity, speed and simplicity of this next generation service, which is among the first in the world being offered to both pre-paid and post-paid mobile customers," says Mohammed Al Fahim, Executive Vice President Marketing - Etisalat.

Registration for Mubashir costs Dhs 200 with a flat monthly fee of Dhs 25, which includes Video Calling, MMS and High - speed mobile Internet access, in addition to GSM / Wasel standard rental charges. Video Calls will be priced at 75 Fils per minute (£1 = AED 6.70, AED 1 = 100 fils) while Data services will be priced at 1 fils per kilobyte of information. GSM postpaid and Wasel pre-paid customers can now migrate to this new service without the need to change their existing numbers or SIM cards.

"Customers wishing to use Mubashir can easily migrate their existing mobile numbers by registering at any Etisalat outlet or by calling the dedicated numbers; 125 for GSM post-paid customers and 122 for Wasel pre-paid customers," adds Al Fahim.

"The new brand and pricing is being celebrated with a promotional campaign offering Video Calling for the price of a voice call and free use of High Speed Mobile Internet Access over the 3G network. With this, Etisalat is spearheading the 3G innovation in the region. We are working closely with the mobile phone manufacturers and major retailers to encourage availability of compatible handsets that will make Mubashir a pioneering success," adds Al Fahim.

This means that throughout the promotional period, Video Calls are priced at 24 Fils per minute for peak times and 18 Fils per minute for off peak times, rather than 75 Fils per minute.

"After the world's eyes focused on the UAE with Etisalat's launch of 3G last month, registrations for Mubashir are yet another milestone in our programme to ensure that the UAE marketplace is ready to take full advantage of Etisalat's live third generation network," concludes Al Fahim.
