Big Brother live over 3G in Sweden

January 28, 2004

3 Sweden yesterday launched Big Brother reality TV show live over the 3G network. This allows 3's customers to connect their 3G phones to six different cameras showing the inside of the Big Brother house.

"We are very excited about being able to offer this world first and innovative service to our customers. Big Brother is an around the clock production where high uptime together with output quality is crucial. Popwire has shown with their product that they can handle both ", says Johan Edlund, Head of Content Production at 3 Sweden.

"Our excellent cooperation with 3 continues and we are pleased to provide the technology that makes new services possible. This particular service really takes advantage of the promises of 3G and we remain convinced that many new live streaming services will be launched in the market during 2004." says Robert Ekström, CEO at Popwire Technology.

Popwire's Live Engine LX is a high-end 3GPP real-time, live encoder specifically designed for the Telecommunications industry. It allows operators to create premium wireless live services, such as live broadcasts, traffic surveillance, weather service and much more.

The Live Engine LX is fully 3GPP compliant and supports all 3GPP enabled mobile handsets on the market today. It has proven to have very high availability as well as produce high quality output.

The Popwire Live Engine LX comes in two versions, a GUI version (Graphical User Interface) and a CLI version (Command Line Interface). The GUI version provides an intuitive interface for configuring the encoding parameters. The CLI version enables remote control of the Live Engine via Telnet and SSH. Popwire Technology has also implemented its revolutionary technology "Dynamic Frame Rate Adoption" originally developed for the Broadcasting industry, to make sure that the bandwidth constrains never is exceeded.
