China to Launch New, Bigger, 3G Trials
January 18, 2005 - source: BWCS
Reports in the Beijing Times today reveal that the Ministry of Information Industry is to ask the major Chinese mobile and fixed operators to begin building large-scale commercial 3G pilot networks in March of this year. The newspaper quotes unnamed sources within the Ministry and a recently released official document.
According to the newspaper, the Chinese government has asked all domestic telecoms operators to prepare much larger tests of 3G equipment and phones than have previously been allowed in the country. The Beijing Times says that China Mobile, China Unicom, China Telecom, China Netcom, China Railcom (China Tietong) and China Satcom will all participate in the trials.
