Orange France targets 30,000 3G handset sales by end January
January 30, 2005
French mobile phone operator Orange is on target to sell 30,000 3G handsets by the end of January. The company has registered sales of 18,000 3G handsets at the end of 2004 since it launched the new mobile service in early December 2004.
Didier Quillot, chairman of Orange's French business, said that a quarter of its 3G customers had crossed over from the group's competitors.
Rival SFR, owned by Vivendi Universal and Vodafone, did not give exact figures for its 3G handset sales but confirmed targets of 500,000 handsets by the end of 2005. SFR also said it had more sales of 3G handsets than Orange.
