Starent Networks secures 3G investment from T-Mobile

January 11, 2006

Starent Networks announced that T-Mobile Venture Fund has made a strategic investment in the company, adding to the fund's portfolio of innovative companies driving 3G wireless communications.

Currently, Starent Networks has deployed its ST16 Intelligent Mobile Gateway systems in more than 30 CDMA2000 and WCDMA networks around the world, connecting more than seven billion subscriber data calls. This strategic investment supports Starent Network's existing 3G footprint while increasing its position in the UMTS market.

"We are looking forward to a long-term and successful relationship with T-Mobile Venture Fund as we continue our company's expansion in the UMTS market," said Ashraf Dahod, president and CEO of Starent Networks Corporation. "Since our inception, we have made significant progress capturing some of the industry's largest and most innovative carriers. We are very pleased to have one of the industry's most prominent venture group's support in our endeavors. This funding is a testament to our business case for providing carriers with compelling next-generation multimedia solutions."

Starent Networks has developed a robust mobile infrastructure solution that has been deployed in major carrier networks in China, Japan, the USA and many other countries. Such deployments have placed the company and its solution in a market leadership role.

"Mobile operators recognize the tremendous need to outfit their networks with high performance carrier-grade systems that are ready to meet subscriber growth and demand," said Stephan Noll, investment director, T-Mobile Venture Fund. "Starent Networks is very well positioned to meet this demand by migrating global carriers to a service-rich, packetized multimedia network architecture. We invested in the company as it has become an important element in the mobile market value chain."
