Japan's DoCoMo plans to launch Super 3G
January 9, 2007
NTT DoCoMo has said that they would upgrade its FOMA 3G wireless network to bring faster data transfer speeds of up to 100Mbps to their subscribers.
This would enhance the existing speeds of 384Kbps and the mobile users would be able to see high-quality video.
They plan to start testing this new technology later this year and could implement this system by 2010. Market sources say that this project could cost the company around $1.7 billion in investments.
The cost of upgrading current FOMA technology to Super 3G would be just a fraction of the huge sums spent on developing the infrastructure for the current high-speed phones.
This network would handle the transition period for the company to the fourth-generation systems.
