RealGroup lost Estonian 3G license
January 22, 2007
RealGroup Systems has lost the Estonian 3G license awarded to it in December 2006, says the Estonian National Communications Board. The regulator claims that RealGroup Systems has not paid its auction bid price of 82,000,010 kroons.
Runner-up company ProGroup Holding, who bid 71,000,100 kroons, has been declared the winner of the auction. The license gives the holder the right to use radio frequencies for construction and development of a universal mobile telecommunication system (UMTS).
In 2003 the Estonian National Communications Board had granted three frequency authorisations by direct offer to the public limited companies EMT, Elisa Mobiilsideteenused and Tele 2 Eesti. These companies were not allowed to participate part in the recent public competition.
