Chunghwa Telecom plans partnership in China

January 25, 2007

Hochen Tan, chairman of Taiwan's largest telecom service provider Chunghwa Telecom, announced on January 23 that the company is going to further expand its 3G network so as to gain a partnership in 3G with China Telecom and China Netcom, two of the country's big four communication service operators, in the near future.

Currently, policies concerning 3G services are not clear in the mainland, but the company still pins much hope on this lucrative business, said a Chunghwa spokesman.

If permited, the company would like to act as an assistant for the mainland's 3G platform construction or a marketing consultant.

Actually, the Taiwan-based company has started its strategic plan in the mainland by first building a subsidiary.
