Indian Government to announce 3G policy by March

January 25, 2007

The Government is likely to announce 3G spectrum policy by March this year.

"The policy will be ready by March 2007," Minister for IT and Communications Dayanidhi Maran said on the sidelines of Amcham Summit.

To a query on when the semiconductor policy would be finalised, Maran said, the Cabinet has given an 'in-principle' approval to the policy but the final recommendations would be announced after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's nod.

On the issue of lowering the roaming charges, he said, the reduction in roaming charges is essential and the companies should pass on the benefits to the end consumers.
