Chinese mobile surfing reaches 17 million

January 30, 2007

China saw the number of netizens who are surfing via mobile phones reach 17 million, accounting for 12.4% of the total by December 31, 2006, according to data from the China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC).

3G mobile services will bring a positive effect on the figure, said Wang Enhai, director of the Information Services Department of CNNIC.

When surfing on the Internet through the mobile phone, netizens generally use services of receiving and sending email and browsing, respectively taking the proportion of 72.2% and 30.9%.

86.4% of netizens think high charge is the main frustration, therefore, 69.6% gives up surfing via mobile phones; 33.4% feels its speed is slow, so 41% gives it up. Besides, inconvenience and too little information to acquire also hinder its promotion.
