Intel boss sees slow 3G rolloutdate: July 17, 2001 Craig Barrett, the chairman of Intel said he doesn't see a quick upturn in the fortunes of the telecoms sector as 3G license holders struggle under mountain's of debt. He told Germany newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung that the vast sum spent on 3G licneses across Europe means telecom companies have such high levels of debt that they cannot afford to invest in UMTS network and will take longer than expected to rollout commercial UMTS networks. He feared the telecom industry will continue to get worse if no support from the government therefore leading to job cuts in the telecom sector.
