Nomura advises Taiwan to issue four 3G licensesdate: July 19, 2001 Taiwan's Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) has been advised by Nomura Research Institute of Japan to issue four three-generation (3G) licences, with one reserved for a newcomer in the market. With a floor price of T$17.3bn, the actual market value of each licence including permit fees and frequency fees will reach T$31.7bn. Taiwan's government is expected to reap revenues of T$126.8bn if all four licences are auctioned off by open bidding. Nomura Research Institute of Japan proposed that MOTC allow buyers to pay in installments in order to reduce initial financial pressure on investors. A New T&T spokesman said a joint bid would make sense as i-Cable can provide the content for the high-speed wireless multimedia technology when it is launched between 2002-2003.
