French football coming to 3G phonesdate: July 19, 2001 Number 1 French operator, Orange, has signed an exclusive agreement with 14 of the 18 of the country's first division football clubs. Orange will allow users to see news and match results on its network over 2G, 2.5G and then multimedia clips over its 3G network. Orange will become the "official partner" of the teams, and will be able to use its logo wherever the teams play matches and will also have use of the clubs' images. These rights should enable Orange to provide real time football content to customers using its 3G networks in Europe. Content such as; video clips of selected goals seconds after they have been scored and clips of matches should be possible in the future. Orange would not release any financial details regarding the contracts. The deal with the division will start with a marketing campaign in the forthcoming season and run until the 2007-8 season. Football seems to be one of the key areas of content that operators are hoping to secure for 3G services. Hutchison 3G has secured the rights to top league football in Italy and the UK.
