CMG acquires 3G mobile technologydate: July 30, 2001 - source: CMG CMG, the global Information & Communications Technology (ICT) group, has bought US technology that will help to power text messages on the next generation mobile services. CMG has acquired Cisco's uOne Unified Communications software platform and its research and development that have approximately 100 employees in Richmond, Virginia, USA. The uOne technology delivers capabilities such as text-to-speech conversion, voice recognition and XML based voice portals, which will be essential in the new 3G/UMTS networks being planned and built. The UK-Dutch group claims the software will play a key role in the new wave of handsets such as 3G which will provide high-speed data Internet services. Geert Kolthof, Vice President Mobile Internet at CMG Wireless Data Solutions, said "On the other, we now have an additional product set that can be sold on a 'stand-alone' basis to existing wireless network operators for inclusion in 2G, 2.5G and 3G networks."
